Spanning Japanese, Western, and Cantonese flavours, The Food Story restaurant group offers Hong Kong dining experiences that transgress cuisine and explore culture of places beyond our city.

This year, The Food Story is going one step further to engage the whole table at their five signature restaurants: the “Bond & Bite” family series inviting children to the centre of culinary experiences to explore great food and form everlasting bonds.

At Japanese-style Chinese restaurant Art of Canton, Mediterranean-French dining concept HUSO, sushi restaurant Gassan, miso udon-speciality restaurant Yamamotoya, and the Hong Kong outpost of Tokyo’s Michelin-starred Hiyama, dining for your children is the new focus.

Art of Canton is hosting a handmade dim sum parent-child workshop (HKD460 per pair of adult and child aged 5 to 12), encouraging families to study the art of dim sum, led by executive chef Zeng Xianxin at their Times Square location.

Hosted every Saturday from 3:30PM to 5PM, parents and children will learn how to make three types of handcrafted dim, including a panda-shaped bun, crispy banana spring roll, and a mini pumpkin dumpling

The participation fee includes one Art of Canton kids’ chef hat and apron set, three freshly made dim sum items to enjoy after class, and one commemorative certificate entitling pairs to enjoy two complimentary designated dim sum items for a lifetime at Art Of Canton.

For more hands-on-fun, the 100-year-old Yamamotoya brand invites families to join their parent-child handmade udon workshop (HKD460 per pair of adult and child aged 5 to 12), held on select Saturday mornings every month at their LCX Tsim Sha Tsui or The Wai locations.

Parents and children are led by the Japanese-speaking chef (Cantonese translations provided) to introduce the art of hand-making udon noodles and enjoy udon creations created by their six pairs of adults and children.

The participation fee includes one Yamamotoya kid’s chef hat and apron set, fresh udon-making ingredients, one udon dish for the accompanying adult, and a commemorative certificate.

At Hiyama in Wan Chai, a Tokyo-born sukiyaki restaurant founded in 1928, the Hiyama Kids Menu (HKD248) entices children with quality Japanese ingredients. The menu invigorates one’s palate with quality dishes like Cartoon Rice Balls, Kyushu Fried Chicken, Hash Browns, and Special Chicken Meatballs.

Every Saturday and Sunday, The Food Story members who make a reservation at the restaurant’s Wan Chai location and order two lunch or dinner sukiyaki sets will receive one complimentary Hiyama Kids Menu for an accompanying child.

Where omakase experiences are concerned, Gassan has designed the Kid Omakase Menu (HKD388), a nine-course menu to promote premium craftsmanship and ingredients to children aged 3 to 12.

The omakase menu begins with three Japanese appetisers: Matsuba Crab Chawanmushi, Japanese Cucumber Salad, and Chicken Karaage, before the sushi stage kicks off with Salmon Oyako Cup, Red Shrimp, Salmon Maki, and Tamagoyaki. The main course features A5 Wagyu Udon, followed by Ice Cream and Wagashi for dessert.

And similar to Hiyama, Gassan is offering one complimentary Kid Omakase Menu to The Food Story members for every two adults reserving a meal on Saturday or Sunday ordering lunch or dinner omakase at the Central restaurant.
